Hikikomori

"Hell is other people"

It's an epidemic of my generation
No one wants to go anywhere anymore.
Outside it's hot, it's cold, it rains,
Your bed is always warm and inviting.
People, they will hurt you given half a chance,
They will take your peace and your sanity,
And fill your head with their problems,
First world problems, while the real world burns.
What's the point of ambition
Of hope, of faith, of love?
Everything ends, everything is untrue,
The urge to withdraw is strong.
Loneliness is a drug that grows on you
The more you have it the more you want
"No man is an island", or so they say,
I don't even know what that means.
It's better to be an island, self sufficient,
self contained and peaceful
No ripples in the fabric of the universe,
Set out to the sea on a rowboat
And lower anchor where it is most calm
Stay there where the world is so quiet
And pray that there are no storms.

I go back to your arms in loneliness,
I don’t know where else to go.
Even though there’s no peace there,
At least it keeps my mind off
All the darkness that waits for me,
This empty, dank reality of existence.

You take me in and then you spit me out,
I could never keep up with your moods
Not dynamic enough to keep you coming,
Not brave enough to let you go.
